Internet access for rural areas

Friday, September 3, 2010
There are a variety of methods to connect the Internet. ADSL is the best solution for high-speed Internet access. ADSL or asynchronous digital subscriber line is available in few cities only and offers the fastest connection, but again having the disadvantage of not having access in rural areas.

If you live far from a cable or DSL Internet service and want something better than dialup, consider getting Internet service via satellite. Satelite internet service is a means of distributing always-on, high-speed asymmetric Internet access by broadcasting signals to and from a personal satellite dish.

Satellite Internet access is slower and more expensive than cable or DSL access, but it is often the only broadband option for rural areas. No telephone lines or cable systems are required for satellite based Internet access. The hardware required includes a satellite dish and a transceiver to access the Internet. Satellite Internet is installed by professionals in much the same manner as cable modems and DSL.
