Women are more vulnerable than men to contracting STDs, and they suffer worse symptoms and complications when they get them, but rates are high among both men and women.

Many doctors recommend periodic testing or screening for people who have more than one sex partner. You can request STD testing from your regular health care provider or you can go to a provider or clinic specializing in STD testing. If you are diagnosed with an STD, tell your sex partners so that they can be informed and seek medical attention. In theory, effective partner notification could completely eliminate curable disease such as chlamydia and gonorhhea.
