Stress and Weight Gain

Tuesday, September 22, 2009
We're learning more all the time about stress and one thing we've found out in the last decade is that there's a link between stress and weight gain. It is a fact that stress can make you gain weight because stress can make people eat more and eat more junk food.

Actually stress can have a variable effect on body weight. Stress causes weight gain in some individual and weight loss in others. Researchers are discovering that women are exposed to more stress than men and are more sensitive to its effects.

High levels of cortisol produced during stress can cause rapid weight gain, fluid retention, upper-body obesity, rounded facial appearance, and fat deposits below the neck in the upper back. If your stress levels are high, you may not be able to lose weight as quick as you want. When you're stressed and feel the temptation to reach for comfort food, try sucking on half a teaspoon of honey instead.
